duplicate the new merged “Layer 1 copy” and you’ll have a “Layer 1 copy 2”ĩ. select the gaussian blur and smart sharpen layer (“Layer 1 copy” and “Layer 1” respectively) and merge them, using Ctrl+EĨ. but most of the time, i do additional sharpening after the gaussian blur.ħ. If you feel satisfied with the sharpening of the photo at this step, you can stop here. There isn’t any definite value of the opacity, i usually put in values ranging from 20%-70% so it really depends on the photo. so play around with the opacity until you get the photo isn’t as oversharpened as before (as a result of the smart sharpening) and you get a sort of “misty” effect but not overly blur, or whatever floats your boat! adjust the opacity of the gaussian blur layer gaussian blur on this duplicated layer, “Layer 1 copy”Ħ. duplicate the “Layer 1” which was just sharpened, creating a new layer that is called “Layer 1 copy” (what it’s called doesn’t really matter)ĥ. (remember to tick the box that says more refined)Ĥ. smart sharpen on the duplicated layer “Layer 1” (it’s called Adjust Sharpen here, but it’s the same as Smart Sharpen) (this doesn’t serve any actual purpose but i do it so that if the sharpening screws up i’ll just start from scratch with the “background” layer that has been denoised)ģ. duplicate the layer which has been denoised. Overall strength: 0.3-0.4 for usual photos, 0.5-0.6 for really bad quality photos with tons of noise (why would you even want to use this photo?!?!)ģ. when the picture is bright and of high quality, denoise isn’t needed. topaz denoise! i don’t use denoise everytime, mostly when there is a lot of noise in the picture. Set your zoom settings to 100% so you can see clearly how the sharpening is going.Ģ. So below is a photo already resized to 500 px before i do any sharpening. open up your photo in photoshop, crop and or resize until you’ve reached your desired framing. however, unless you’re the one taking the photo you have no control over that so just try to use high quality photos.ġ. if you want your sharpening to turn out nice, i would advice you to start with a high quality photo, the bigger the dimensions of the original photo, the higher the quality of the photo, the better the end result would be. First thing - no two pictures start off the same some are more sharpened, some have more noise, some are of lower quality.
